PSYCHS December Newsletter 2025!

Hi PSYCHS!
Happy December - finals season is upon us! Before we start cramming, let’s take a moment to reflect on all the hard work and effort we have put into our classes this semester. Reviewing the highs and lows will allow us to come back stronger and better than ever in the new year!
For our last newsletter of 2025, we will be sharing helpful tips and tricks to survive the most stressful time of the semester. We are also looking forward to seeing you all at the “How To Get Into Grad School” event hosted in collaboration with the GPPP this Wednesday, December 3rd at 6 PM via Zoom (please register to access the Zoom link).
There are only a few more days left until the end of the semester, and we wish you all the best of luck with your final assignments and exams! We are sure that you will excel and are proud of all the hard work everyone has put in this semester.
Happy holidays!
Warmly,
The PSYCHS Team

Rotating Feature: Wellness Corner
As the end of the semester is approaching, final projects and exams may create a lot of stress. Below we provided some healthy stress management techniques to incorporate during this busy time:
Exercise: Whether you go for a walk, go to the gym, or take a fitness class, exercise can help improve your mood by releasing endorphins.
Relaxation techniques: Next time you’re feeling overwhelmed, step back and try a relaxation technique to help you feel better. Some examples include meditation, muscle relaxation, deep breathing, and yoga!
Sleep: Getting a good sleep is essential for regulating stress. Try setting a sleep schedule for yourself to ensure you get 7-8 hours of sleep.
Balanced diet: Incorporating lean proteins and fatty acids in your diet will give you more energy to stay focused, and ease stress. Some examples include fish, meat, eggs, and nuts.
We hope these tips help you regulate your stress during these last few weeks of the semester. For on-campus health and wellness support, be sure to check out Student Wellness Services in the MacEwan Student Centre (Room 370).

Diary of a Psyc Student
Thank you to all of those who submitted a diary entry in last month’s newsletter! This month, we have chosen to feature the entry below:
“I’m a first year student so this is my first finals season, and I’m really nervous. Do you have any tips to succeed?”
It is totally normal to be nervous, and we are here to help! Check out the most recent post on our socials where we have compiled some of the PSYCHS Executive Team’s best study tips and favourite places to study on campus. Don’t hesitate to reach out to us, your professors, your classmates, and student services for support. Good luck!
-PSYCHS
Being a psychology student can be exciting, but also overwhelming! That’s why we’ve created Diary of a Psych Student – a space in our newsletter where you can share what’s on your mind.
Whether you’re celebrating a win (aced an exam, landed a research position), or facing a challenge (stress, self-doubt, tough classes), this is your place to rant, laugh, vent, or reflect. Our team will read your submissions and respond in the next issue with encouragement, advice, or simply a listening ear.
Submissions are anonymous and they don’t have to be long. Even a few sentences can spark connection and remind others they’re not alone in this journey!
So go ahead – share your story, question, or celebration with us! Together, we’ll build a supportive space where every psyc student feels heard!
While we hope to offer support and community, please remember that this column is not a replacement for professional counselling or mental health services. We encourage seeking out professional help for serious issues. Please check out the Wellness services offered at UofC.
